Interviewed By Mike Duffy
Mike Duffy: I was wondering when you go from high school, to college,to minor leagues, what was the biggest challenge when you reach each stage?
Tyler Adkison: The biggest challenge at each stage is adjusting to the speed of the game. Everyone gets better at each level you go up and the game gets more and more complex. Everyone is extremely talented at the professional level so it’s all about coming to work each day and bringing your best mind set. That can be your competitive advantage
Mike Duffy: What is your favorite thing about being a Dodger?
Tyler Adkison: The dodgers organization is amazing. We get treated very well and it brings a sense of pride coming to work everyday and putting on the dodger blue. Being part of a collective effort that is bigger than yourself is special and a goal like working towards a World Series championship is something that not many people get an opportunity to partake in.
Mike Duffy: What is your favorite hobby besides baseball?
Tyler Adkison: In the offseason I like to spend time with family and friends. I will be spending most of my time in San Diego and hope to do some traveling as well.
Mike Duffy: Who was your favorite baseball player growing up?
Tyler Adkison: My favorite player growing up was Torii Hunter and it was pretty cool that in my first professional season I played against his son in rookie ball. It’s cool how everything comes in full circle. Also, I distinctly remember playing in travel baseball tournaments growing up at the dodgers spring training complex and being here now it is surreal.
Mike Duffy: Goals for this offseason?
Tyler Adkison: My goals and mindset for this upcoming season and offseason are to find a way to get 1% better everyday and with that segmented goal setting I believe I will be in a great spot for future development.
Mike Duffy: What is your favorite stadium?
Tyler Adkison: My favorite stadium is Tony Gwynn Stadium at San Diego State. That’s where I called home for my college career and that’s where I’ll train in the off season.
Mike Duffy: What is your favorite T.V. show?
Tyler Adkison: My favorite tv show is probably Californication. I like how it was filmed where I grew up.
Mike Duffy: Do you have a motto or a thing to do to get you out of a rough time?
Tyler Adkison: Baseball is a game of successes and failures and I wouldn’t say I have a motto to get out of bad situations, but more of a mindset of optimism and constant work towards perfecting a craft that is imperfectable and always demanding more. The biggest thing is optimism and you only get so much time to play this game so you must go out everyday and have fun with it.
Mike Duffy: When did you know you wanted to play professional baseball?
Tyler Adkison: I always had dreams of playing professionally, just like any other kid on a sandlot growing up. I didn’t really grasp the possibility of it actually happening until I went to play college ball and continued to develop and separate myself from the pack. I am grateful everyday for the opportunities that have been presented to me.
