Interviewed By Mike Duffy
Mike Duffy: I was wondering when you go from high school to Collage, to the minor leagues, what was the biggest challenge when you reach each stage?
Mikey York: The biggest challenge was telling myself not to change. I would think that just because I’m at the next level of competition I need to change myself and make myself better when in reality I just needed to continue doing what got me there.
Mike Duffy: What is your favorite thing about being a Ray?
Mikey York: My favorite part of being a ray is probably the friendships I’ve made with my teammates.
Mike Duffy: What is your favorite hobby besides baseball?
Mikey York: Besides baseball all I do is play video games, golf and hangout with my fiancé and friends haha.
Mike Duffy: Who was your favorite baseball player growing up?
Mikey York: Growing up I was a big Jeter guy. I never really liked pitchers because I didn’t start pitching seriously until I was 13. Always liked Nolan ryan too.
Mike Duffy: What was your favorite team growing up?
Mikey York: Growing up I never had a favorite team being from Vegas.
Mike Duffy: Goals for this offseason?
Mikey York: This offseason my main focus was getting stronger obviously but getting more flexible and working on getting more like wirey with my movements.
Mike Duffy: What is your favorite stadium?
Mikey York: My favorite stadiums was a toss up between Fort Wayne Tin Caps or the Vermont Lake Monsters.
Mike Duffy: What is your favorite T.V. Show?
Mikey York: My favorite tv show is definitely The Office.
Mike Duffy: Do you have a motto or a thing to do to get you out of a rough time?
Mikey York: In all of my hats I’ve always wrote “Work fast, change speeds, and throw strikes.” So I like to tell myself that a lot. And when I’m in a rough time, it’s usually linked to my mechanics so I just control my breathing and try to get back in sync.
Mike Duffy: When did you know you wanted to play professional baseball?
Mikey York: Ever since I can remember I wanted to play pro ball.
Mike Duffy: What is your favorite baseball memory?
Mikey York: My favorite baseball memory has to be either draft day. Had my family with me and it was just a really special time.
Mike Duffy: What is your biggest takeaway after this season?
Mikey York: Last season i would say it was mindset. I just put everything out on the table and said here it is, I’m gunna let them hit it and trust my defense. A takeaway from this season was just to trust myself. When I got to proball I gave hitters so much credit because it was the next level and I had doubts that I wasn’t good enough. But this year I kind of got that confidence and I guess swagger back.
Mike Duffy: Who is your favorite Musician? What is your favorite song?
Mikey York: My favorite musician is tough, I listen to all genres but if I had to narrow it down it either be Pink Floyd or Kid Cudi. Then favorite song is either House of the Rising Sun by The Animals or Simple Man by Lynyrd Skynyrd.
