Sean Hjelle

Interviewed By Mike Duffy

Mike Duffy: I was wondering  when you went from high school, to the University of Kentuckey, what was the biggest challenge when you reach each stage?

Sean Hjelle: Biggest change from high school to college: After almost three years at Kentucky, the biggest difference between high school and college baseball is that I am no longer the only one with dreams of winning national championships and playing professionally. Every guy on the team had the exact same dream growing up as a kid, and we all still carry that dream with us, and in order for one of us to achieve our dream we all have achieve our dreams.

Mike Duffy: What is your favorite thing about being a player for the University of Kentucky?

Sean Hjelle: My favorite thing about playing for the University of Kentucky is stepping onto the field and seeing a packed stadium, especially out at the Cliff. It is a moment that is only a second, but it stays in my mind forever. It reminds me of the family and the nation, the Big Blue Nation, that I will be a part of for the rest of my life.

Mike Duffy: What is your favorite hobby besides baseball?

Sean Hjelle: My favorite hobby besides baseball is to be with my family and play card games and board games.

Mike Duffy: Who was your favorite baseball player growing up?

Sean Hjelle: My favorite player of all time is Roberto Clemente, but growing up I always loved watching Cliff Lee and Roy Halliday pitch.

Mike Duffy: What was your favorite team growing up and currently?

Sean Hjelle: Being from Minnesota, I always cheered for the Twins, but right now I do not have a favorite team.

Mike Duffy: What are you looking forward to most about hopefully going to the major leagues?

Sean Hjelle: If I make it to the MLB, what I would look forward to the most is being able to use my platform to try and make a difference in someone’s life.

Mike Duffy: How are you feeling about the draft coming up?

Sean Hjelle: I am focusing on the 2018 season. I understand the draft will happen, but it is the least of my concerns right now.

Mike Duffy: What is your favorite stadium?

Sean Hjelle: In the SEC, my favorite stadium that we have gone to so far has been South Carolina.

Mike Duffy: What is your favorite Movie? What is your favorite T.V. Show?

Sean Hjelle: My favorite movie is Good Will Hunting. My favorite all time favorite TV show is the Office.

Mike Duffy: Do you have a motto or a thing to do to get you out of a rough time?

Sean Hjelle: I just have to pray and put my trust in my lord and use my friends and family as a support system to get through a rough time. That’s what gets me through it.

Mike Duffy: When did you know you wanted to play professional baseball?

Sean Hjelle: I’ve wanted to play professional baseball since I was a little kid.

Mike Duffy: What is your biggest takeaway after this season?

Sean Hjelle: My biggest takeaway from the 2017 season was that the atmosphere we created and the culture we instilled is the foundation to change an entire program, school, and the lives of everyone involved with our team last year.
